The movie centers in the life of a very sincere and benevolent man- FRANCESCO (St. Francis of Assisi). A man who always believe in courtesy and respect towards his own disposition to serve God, being guided by his own knowledge and understanding to love God in the manner suited to his own belief even if in return he will be out of his parents guidance and be disregarded by so many. Francesco always thinks of what is good for the people- that is respecting them and treating them fairly. He even neglected the pleasure and luxury in life that his parents give to him just to be with ordinary people- live with them and together serve God in the most appropriate way. He has a god heart to a beggar to the extent that he wants to be like them and live with them and he has a higher calling in mind. His great desire to serve God is being tested when he build his own church together with his friend Claire and his followers and then questioned and doubted by the local bishop of Assisi. But then he never gave up. Francesco and his friends walk barefoot to the Vatican to meet and seek approval from the Pope. It was then that Francesco’s love and faithfulness to God is being looked up by so many followers even by the Pope.
Sometimes it is not enough for us to act what is important, what is acceptable and what is practical, but to act what is good and to act in accordance to our own will and desire. The message from the movie is clear. We are not in this world for promiscuity purposes alone. We are here to serve God whom we are awing everything including our lives even if it means giving up the pleasure life may bring and be contented loving and following the will of God which I think is the real perfect happiness.
It is then appreciable to say that in order for us people to be like in a way St. Francis live life we should start asking ourselves now if where our true happiness really relies upon. Life maybe so unpredictable but the true essence of life is being happy doing good things not for your own benefit but more on the goodness of others. It is therefore much rewarding if the moment the sun set we are able to help and we are able to touch lives which is our own purpose why were here in this world.
